In order to succeed at any goal or dream, it requires FOCUS!
Below are 7 quick ways to help you Master your Focus!
1. Determine what you really want. Most people are very unfocused and unproductive because they don’t know what they want. Take the time to decide what you really want (in all areas of your life), not what you don’t want. Be clear. The more clear you are the better focused you will be in taking any action - be it mental or physical. Your goals and dreams will be achieved much more powerfully when you know with crystal clarity what your goal looks like. Clarity is power, so determine what you want. Fixate yourself on the target!
2. Determine the price that you will have to pay to acquire the things that you want. Please understand that many times this is not money. Many times it will be overcoming fears, failures, disappointments, and disadvantages. Many times the price is taking a step of faith or trying something new, or stepping out of your comfort zone.
3. Surround yourself with people who will protect your focus. The average employee in America has about 40 different interruptions in a day. Begin to protect your focus by concentrating your time and energy on task-oriented assignments. Find people who do masterfully well, the thing you want to do, and have them mentor you. Additionally, put people around your life, career, business, ministry, goals, dreams, and aspirations who are gatekeepers. Folks that keep “time-wasters” from getting to you. These people may be in your family or they may be close friends. Teach people how to respect your time, by respecting your time yourself enough to not do the things or go the places that “time-wasters” do and go.
4. Understand and implement The Laser Principle. The only thing that makes a laser more powerful then regular sunlight is the fact that the laser beam is focused in one point. Stop trying to be a “jack of all trades” and start becoming a “master of one.”
5. Realize that people don’t hire jacks, they hire masters! What is the one thing that you are willing to master? What type of expert are you willing to be? The average human being has over 600 talents and abilities, but normally only a few that they utilize to the fullest in order to create their destiny. You are a unique individual. Be like a stamp, and stick to one thing…until it delivers!
6. Start each morning with a To-Do List. Put only 7 things on it, in order of priority. Don’t work on #2 until #1 is done. Stay committed to your greatness! Don’t reply to email and voicemails at all times during the day, protect your focus. Give yourself several specific times to reply throughout the day, and dedicate the rest of your time towards accomplishing your 7 goals for that day.
7. If you use a computer alot like most of us do, clean up your desktop. Don’t have 20 or 30 icons on your desktop. That sends a message to your brain that you are comfortable with clutter and an overabundance of unnecessary items. If your desktop is cluttered, your mind and life are probably cluttered too. Also, while working on your computer, close any and all programs that you are not using in the present moment. Keeping multiple programs open that you are not using slows down your computer processor first of all, but second it keeps your brain thinking about other things you could be doing in those programs that you don’t need to focus on because as soon as you do, you get off task. So, if you are working in PowerPoint, shut down Word and Excel for a while. If you are researching on the Internet, close down other programs that don’t have anything to do with your present research. Protect your focus!
In truth, there are TONS of ways that you can improve your and enhance your focus. However we don’t change our lives by doing a million things right at one time. We change by doing a few things very well, turning those actions into healthy habits, and then progressively adding new actions. Master your focus, and live your dreams!
